MIKE BREEN: 3DM LIFESHAPES AND MONASTICISM ARE DOCTRINES OF DEMONS

I have previously written on Hubpages warning about 3DM Lifeshapes and The Order of Mission (TOM). TOM was implemented at Holy Trinity Church in Leicester some time ago.

Mike Breen is a self appointed "Apostle"  and "Senior Guardian" of TOM who peddles these doctrines of demons in Jesus' name.  He has devised a system he calls 3DM whereby eight geometric shapes are used as a prism to interpret the Bible in order to create culture, create language, create vocabulary, create a culture of discipling leaders.”  Breen claims to provide “immersion experiences in the learning community.”

3DM appeals to the flesh, but it is nothing but a cleverly devised myth (2 Peter 1/16). One definition of myth is: a belief or set of beliefs, often unproven or false, that have accrued around a person, phenomenon, or institution. http://www.thefreedictionary.com  Breen uses 3DM in conjunction with TOM which is monasticism.

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. (2 Peter 1/16)

TOM and 3DM are experiential and extra biblical - they go beyond what is written and have fooled some so called “leaders” in the church. Breen's system is rooted in pride and is very damaging:

I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favour of one against another. (1 Corinthians 4/6)

Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. (2 John 1/9)

Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar. (Proverbs 30/6; Revelation 22/18))

Does Mike Breen know better than God? His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence..... (2 Peter 1/3)

This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments (precepts) of men. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (1 Corinthians 1/25)

I have received an important confirmation from a member of a church in Nebraska USA below:

2/22/2014

Just to give you an idea of what happened in our church, Bethany Lutheran in Elkhorn, Nebraska, USA
Our pastors Mark & Wenda Fry (husband and wife) connected with Mike Breen in Arizona at a mega church there. They brought him to our church and began the indoctrination of our congregation.

First they brought in Life Shapes. Most of us didn’t get this or decided we already were participating in serving the people around us – low income, poor, hungry, etc. Then huddles were introduced, and didn’t appeal to a great deal of us but Mark & Wenda kept pushing this.

Apparently Mike Breen was fired at the church in Arizona, and his friend, Garett Robinson was not far behind. The rumor we got was that when Breen was fired, the Immigration officials were on hand but somehow he got around that. We think that the Fry’s may have helped financially in his legal battle with immigration. Then Garret Robinson came to our church, to be a “worship leader”. He took over the entire service, and the pastors did very little. The pastors pushed out our wonderful music director and put Garrett in his place. The performances of Mr. Robinson got more and more like an act. He wanted the congregation on their feet for most of the service, and encouraged kneeling. Our church has no kneelers. Mike Breen came in for a service and was trying to convince folks he was a healer, and encouraged Wenda Fry to take classes to do this. Being a Lutheran Church, people were not falling for this.

Mike Breen convinced our pastors that they shouldn’t pay people to work at the church, they should be all volunteers so that more money could go to missions (3DM as is turned out). Our children’s programs were being discontinued, services with a choir were a joke – Garrett Robinson had the music he was playing on his guitar so loud, the choir couldn’t be heard. The music in general was being played at a very loud level, where you couldn’t even hear the people giving communion even standing a foot away from them.

Garrett and Mark Fry gave one service for younger people on a Sunday evening and made the remark that this was a 3DM church, if you didn’t like it, go somewhere else.

The older people and many others were leaving our church or just not going to the point where what was a 1200 plus membership down to 600. The Fry’s had handpicked the church council so they were going along with this madness. Finally a petition was circulated and a church meeting called and the area Bishop was asked to come and accept the petition. The petition called for an election of council members, which was done and all the old were replaced. Then the Bishop oversaw meetings where synod officials and church members got together to discuss what was wrong and what needed to be done.

Finally the Fry’s left voluntarily and Garrett Robinson left also. Mr. Robinson sent the membership a scathing letter. He said in it that he had planned to train “worship leaders” in our church and he would be praying for us. It was never clear what Mr. Robinson’s credentials were, musically or religiously.

The Fry’s took 30 to 50 families with them when they left, and they seem to have lost about half of that number but are still trying to carry on Mike Breen’s message. I have checked the 3DM website every so often and it seems they are not charging the $30,000 a year to join this movement. Our church paid out $72,000 to Mr. Breen before it was stopped.

I had written letters to Immigration, the State Department and Homeland Security complaining about his “fraud”. The first time I read the oath the followers had to take to follow Mike Breen, the guardian I was sick to my stomach. As far as I was concerned it was a CULT, and there were many others of the same mind.

I appreciated your article as I agreed with what you wrote. Thank you. People need to be aware of false prophets such as these.

UPDATE: 3DM is now known as 5Q with Alan Hirsch, Cairn Network. Kairos network.

  1. All very true. You may want to look into the real picture at ST Toms in Sheffield when he was there as well. Very worrying man, who a number of my friends now personally...a very convincing and likeable man but a complete fraud.

  2. Anon - It is deadly when false teachers are likeable and convincing as you say. Satan comes as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11/14). It is so vital to test everything so that we do not fall into error. I will look into St Thomas Church? Sheffield. Thank you very much for your input. God bless you.

  3. St Thomas Church in Crooks , Sheffield...read an excellent book written by the vicar there in the 80's as it was going through some charismatic renewal. The name nick warren comes to mind but not sure, will have to dig the book out and pass it on to you. Always remember some good testimonies in the book and it gave a real community church on the move vibe to it and I thought, "why ain't my church like this?" very encouraging about renewal in an anglican setting. This was at the start of the infamous '9 O'clock service' for youth and I think that is where it all went pear shaped as the charismania and spirit experiences went beyond the experience of the ordained ministers and leaders to control and eventually this movement moved out of the church and into another building. the leader of this 'cult' movement falling into disrepute through alleged sexual misconduct and abuse issues. Seems so long ago now but looks like some leopards and wolves never change their spots?

  4. Thank you Andy. I did a Google search yesterday but didn't come up with very much. Was Mike Breen involved in the "9 o'clock service"? Maybe others out there have some information they could share? I think the Anglicans have completely lost the plot, if they ever really had it! I would like to borrow the book some time please. God bless you.

  5. We are going through this right now. I will not disclose details, as our Elders have just now acted to remove 3DM, and we do not yet know the decision of the pastoral staff, but the subtle deception has been devastating to our congregation. What was sold to us as a tool has become a stranglehold, controlling all aspects of our church.

  6. Thank you for letting me know about this anon. Please do let me know the outcome. I hope that other churches will take a warning from the damage caused by 3DM. God bless you.

  7. Here is an update to my April 10 posting. Seven folks, including our senior pastor and his two chosen ones from TOM have left.

Apparently they prefer the programs of "man" to caring for the spiritual needs of our congregants. The fruits of 3DM have all been negative, but our worship today was so clean and refreshing as the Holy Spirit breathes new life into our church.

It was like fresh air from an open window in the spring. There is still much to do to repair our falling attendance and ailing budget, but the genuine worship is back.

My fear, of course, that the "birds" we chased away will roost elsewhere.

  8. This is wonderful news Anon. I am so glad that things are improving and I am sure that they will continue to improve as you follow the Lord in all truth. There is another church that is struggling with 3DM - they have been in touch with me and given me much information which I will be posting in the near future. God bless you.

  9. The Baptist church in Australia that we have attended recently has been preaching the 'lifeshapes' which Breen originated. They are also taking on a lot of the church-growth, seeker-sensitive preaching which has come out of the States over the last few decades. I always thought Baptists were quick on the uptake, but the three pastors in charge of this small congregation seem unaware of the controversy surounding this teaching.

  10. Thank you Anita - your comment is very timely. I have just had information about another church that has been torn apart by 3DM. I am writing about this subject again this week. All you can do is bring the church leaders attention to the damage that 3DM is causing and of course pray. 3DM is a very cleverly devised system and sadly it seems to ensnare certain leaders who have lost their connection with Christ the head (Colossians 2/19) Go to http://www.nhlc.org/3dm
    and also http://www.schooleyfiles.com/2013/11/mike-breen-and-building-discipling.html
If you have any further information I would be very interested to hear from you.

  11. As someone who lives and works in the north of England, where St Thomas Crookes is, and who knew of the Nine O'clock Service (NOS) through friends who were there at the time but not deceived.
Let me put the record straight. Mike Breen put Chris Brain, (the leader of the sex and money exploitation cult) out of St Thomas church when NOS went bad. Chris Brain went over Rev Breen's head saying he was jealous and the bishop of sheffield supported NOS becoming separate from St Thomas. NOS went from bad to worse and then was exposed in the national press. St Thomas church has a high level of accountability for leaders in reaction to the failings of Mr Brain and NOS and has been a superb growing church ever since, despite the hugely adverse publicity of NOS.

I cannot speak for any happenings in the USA, but here in the UK St Tom's is a respected mainstream evangelical/charismatic church across the nation. Crookes has planted another church, St Thomas Philadelphia and both continue to do great work in Sheffield which is one of the least churched and hardest mission grounds in the country statistically. They mainly work for the good of the poor and needy, but are open to all.

Andy T, is was Rick Warren.

  12. Dave - None of what you say is verifiable - can you give me some evidence please? It appears that Breen did nothing about the NOS until after "it went bad".... what happened prior to that between the Chris Brain and Mike Breen has not been made available publicly. Breen's monasticism did come on the back of the NOS. My posts about 3DM are a BIBLICAL CRITIQUE. There is growing evidence that 3DM is very damaging and there ARE problems now emerging in the UK. I have written about this in my latest post. St Thomas may help the poor and this is all well and good. I have written in another post that Judas Iscariot was "concerned" about the poor. The gospel comes first always - without the true gospel Christians are wasting their time, though they may seem to have a good reputation Revelation 3/1). May the Lord lead you into all truth. God bless you.

  13. Well not everyone at St Thomas Sheffield is full of joy over the control of 3DM and TOM........ Please read http://www.schooleyfiles.com/2013/11/mike-breen-and-building-discipling.html
where you will find this person's view of it....

Regarding loss of people from St Toms Philadelphia (NCS - now has 2 bases - did have 3, one has left)
Yes true - lots of people have recently left. Leadership has been poor, secrecy has been high on the agenda. And all the leaders are TOM members, self perpetuating through the huddle system. The new leader who is supposed to have 'properly appointed' has been huddled for 7 years by the old leader (who is huddles by Breen) Even as the new leader starts work in Sheffield, he is still going to be huddles by the old leader... crazy! Straight back to shepherding movement.
People are unhappy but nothing can be done as its so engrained. The church governance system is terrible. Unlike North Heights, there is no way out.
Be careful if 3dm are in your church that your leaders don't dilute the council / elder ship to be powerless, citing 'apostolic leadership' as the way forward.
'Line up behind your apostle' type prophetic words - very heavy, not at all from Jesus.
Believe what you will, but these people are powerful and dangerous.

can anyone tell me where to find the experiences of current or past Sheffield members? Our church is just starting the process of forming huddles. Not sure about it- bit worried.

  15. There are a few posts on this blog about 3DM - there are many testimonies from ex members of 3DM on the comments of http://www.schooleyfiles.com/2013/11/mike-breen-and-building-discipling.html
    God bless you.

  16. Interesting to stumble upon this today, as our church has reached a crisis point - I believe due to the secretive nature of 3DM and it's implementation by our pastor.

Any wisdom you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Right now this is a "nick" in our rather small congregation, but several families are highly devoted to our pastor and the 3DM "model". These people are almost brainwashed and it is disturbing to say the least.

We are working fervently to get all association with 3DM removed from our church, but I fear it may tear the congregation apart.... thank you for the information presented here.

Can you point me to any other sources we can use in our research of Mike Breen and this movement?

  18. Treena, you take what people say about their "failing", 3DM-accepting church as truth. But when one guy tries to set the record straight on Mike Brown, you immediately dismiss it as not "verifiable".

As someone who has seen the direct, biblical, encouraging impact of 3DM on a church, I'm sad to read such an evaluation. My friend is a pastor of a church in the U.S. and the community has never grown in the knowledge of God's will more than it is now; has never shared the Gospel like it does now; and the people have never embraced the Great Commission as now. My guess is that you'll delete this comment, though I hope you really consider whether you may be the cause of friendly fire.

As far as the comments about Breen promoting the occult, I have to say that I believe you are sorely mistaken. Shapes are not evil. Numbers are not evil. And creating a common language that helps people fulfill the Great Commission in their lives and communities is not evil. Please reconsider this effort to discredit a man who is pointing people to Jesus. He has never pointed people to Satan. He uses his God-given creative mind to come up with a system for people fulfill the greatest mission given to man.

Let's encourage people to the same mission, rather than tearing down one whose purpose is for Jesus to be made known.

  19. I am not sure what you mean in your first sentence at all - do you mean Mike Brown or Mike Breen? I did ask the writer in question to provide "evidence" which is reasonable - otherwise what he says is not verifiable is it? Nothing is evil in and of itself - it is the use people put things to and Breen uses these shapes in an occult setting. Breen's "system" is extrabiblical. Read the devastation 3DM has caused in the Schooley Files comments link and elsewhere. 3DM has ruined churches and caused great damage. Breen is very clever I grant you, but he misses the simplicity that is in Christ (2 Cor 11/3) by adding to the Word of God with his own worldly ideas and "system". "Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?" (1 Cor 1/20).
